Once again, I'm back to the UT Austin. During the next months I will be a visiting researcher at the Radio - Television - Film department, processing my data set and auditing some courses.
Hopefully, I will go back to Porto with a considerable development in my research and, certainly, with a new set of experiences. The documentary 3 Horas para Amar is now available for free streaming at Lugar do Real. Watch it, share it, comment... we are looking forward to listen your thoughts.
"Documentary and Technology: two realities in parallel development" is now published in Doc On-line - Digital Magazine on Documentary Cinema.
The latest technological developments showed that documentary’s different approaches to the “real” are not only the result of social and aesthetic movements, but also a consequence of the cinematic apparatus. By the analysis of several classic and interactive documentaries I intend to understand in what way technology has changed the documentary and what should be preserved as an inalienable characteristic of authenticity. Keywords: documentary, technology, interactivity, aesthetics, authorship. full text HERE The documentary 3 hours to love will be screened at Quebec University, in Montreal, on November the 2nd, at 7 pm.
Thank you to Les Filministes for this kind invitation. During the next weeks I will be a visiting researcher at the National Film Board of Canada's digital program in Vancouver's studio. This visit will be a great opportunity to deeply understand interactive documentary's workflow, interview crew members and analyze NFB's work.
NFB's digital program in Vancouver created, among others, works as Bear 71, The Seven Digital Deadly Sins, Circa 1948, Bread and the recent released Kabul Portraits. "Ways of Feeling: audience’s meaning making in interactive documentary through an analysis of Fort McMoney" is in the inaugural issue of Punctum, International Journal of Semiotics.
The paper employ a multimodal framework, combining film analysis with the analysis of non-linear structures, to explore the narrative experience in interactive documentary. Full text available for download http://punctum.gr/?page_id=207 We are a live audiovisual project based in Portugal. We have been recently developing a performance composed by real-time live coding sound and audio-reactive visuals.
Our performance has been presented at the Fine Arts Faculty - University of Porto (15.05.2015), Centro de Memória at Vila do Conde (16.05.2015) and Maus Hábitos in Porto (26.06.2015). We are constantly in a complex change with our environment interacting with the spaces through our senses. To explore the space, we will be using raw material for soundscape composition and live performance and will also be promoting a memory of the place. We want to explore the relation between the real time performance with image and sounds from the physical world (public space). For the Festival, we propose to develop, in site, a new audiovisual live act specific for the city that represents the everyday crossovers of the Tejo river. Daily, thousands of people get on board the “cacilheiros” boats, as an essential part of their daily lives, and cross the river between the south and north shores. Looking out the window we behold the river, the seagulls, the Lisbon’s skyline, the smell of a fresh morning and we experience a multi-sensory journey. + info http://plunc.pt/performances/kobayashi/ Attending to the Open Institute at the University of Texas - Austin, with lectures about Open Access, Open Data, Open Software, Open Hardware, Open Storytelling...
